Thing 16 - Facebook

Ah, Facebook. A familiar friend. I have been a regular user since 2007 and love keeping in touch with my friends, seeing their holiday snaps, chatting and commenting on their wall posts. I must confess that I hadn't really looked at using it professionally though until now, and had never looked at Facebook Business pages.

The Cambridge Libraries application looks really useful for readers, as it brings the library to them. Putting myself in a reader's shoes, if I was studying at the Classical Faculty, I might well 'like' the Classical Faculty Library on Facebook. I particularly liked the English Faculty Library and Jerwood Library pages as the photos really add to the visual experience. It looks as though a lot of events and exhibitions are going on and seems to add a friendly face to the libraries. I also liked how some library pages, such as the Marshall Library of Economics posted interviews relevant to their library users.

I wonder if more Cambridge libraries will develop Facebook pages after 23 Things? It will be interesting to see.
