Thing 17 - LinkedIn

I'm finding this a difficult thing to blog about for some reason. If only I had watched Toy Story 3 I might have been inspired like Rachel Marsh!

I was surprised how similar LinkedIn is to Facebook, just with a professional focus and no silly photos. Part of the profile looks just like a CV, so I can see how it could potentially be useful in recruitment, although I'm not quite sure exactly how it fits into the world of job applications and interviews. I didn't create a profile as I didn't feel comfortable putting my work experience and education up on a public profile unless I was going to keep it updated and actually use the website regularly. At the moment I'd rather focus on exploring and blogging about the rest of 23 Things before the deadline!

A quick search for some people outside of Cambridge libraries that I know professionally didn't bring any results. It seems that none of them are on LinkedIn, although lots of namesakes are - usually in marketing or similar professions.

Now that I'm more aware of LinkedIn and what it's all about, I will bear it in mind for the future.
